Incident Details
- Incident Description: Dispatched for a special service for a resident complaining of a liquid candle that would not extinguish. Arrived to find candle on hutch in living room. Candle is in a glass container approximately 3" in diameter and 3-4" tall. Candle is burning throughout most of the surface, several inches high, and is burning out of control. Sparks seen coming from candle. Resident states candle was burning up to a foot high and container started to crack and break. Container is broken with top ring separated from rest of glass. Large pot used to smother flames and starve from oxygen. Once extinguished, candle moved to front yard for cooling and examination. Resident states candle was purchased through a candle party. Resident further states she was going to try to contact company she purchased the candle from. Resident offered candle to be taken into custody by PFD for further investigation. Cleared incident. Candle has been preserved by PFD.

As a result, we are confident our candles are safe when used as directed. It is very important for all consumers to read and follow label directions and warnings whenever burning a candle. In the meantime, the candle in question is being returned to us in order that we may investigate this situation further. Thank you for bringing the incident to our attention.
