Incident Details
- Incident Description: To whom it may concern:
I am writing in regard to a changing table I purchased of yours, from Babies R Us. I was
changing my two-year-old daughter on it when the board beneath just split wide open on her. I
immediately removed her and examined it, and found it to be as flimsy as cardboard. I called the
phone number on the sticker, immediately, and left a detailed and very concerned message. No one
ever bothered to respond to my call.
I called again last week. This time, I got a human being. Still, no apologies or even
sympathies, only excuses ("We don't know the condition you kept the changing table in," "It's no
longer still under warranty," "Maybe she was too heavy"--She wasn't; she was 25 lbs., and it's
supposed to hold up to 30--yaddie-yaddie-yaddah.). I'm sorry but a child falling through and being
injured from a changing table collapsing on her does not call for ANY excuses! And regardless of
WHEN the warranty expires, NO changing table should EVER be splitting open on ANY child!
The woman then non-chalantly instructed me to send pictures, I guess to prove I was telling
the truth. I explained to her that I had had to literally tape the changing table back together in order
to use it, but I would send pictures with the tape. So here they are (along with the model number,
etc.).
When you pay hundreds of dollars for a changing table to safely change your child in, you
do not expect to have to contend with having the table split wide open on your child due to this type
of shoddy workmanship. You should not have to worry about your child's safety--from the
furniture itself--when you lay her down to simply change a diaper. This is a disgrace and
completely unacceptable.
Sincerely,
[REDACTED]
