44 YOM consumer's lithium battery exploded in garage. Battery was not charging nor in use. Battery and some items caught fire. Not an isolated incident. Consumer, 43 YO, 5 YO and 3 YO were not injured.

  • Incident Description: A SKIL PWR CORE 40 5.0Ah lithium battery exploded in our garage. The battery was not being charged and had not been recently used. The battery caught multiple nearby items on fire. My wife very luckily heard noise from the fire and discovered the issue within minutes of it happening and we were able to get the battery and the items it caught on fire out of the garage before it caused major damage or injuries. Upon researching the issue, we heard from the insurance agent for the company that there have been other fires. And there are others online who have mentioned similar issues with the exact same battery.
