  • Incident Description: I examined a 7-year old girl with no known medical history, who was witnessed by family to choke while eating '[REDACTED]' Candy on 4/11/2023. EMS responded and by direct finger sweep and laryngoscopy, recovered a plastic ball (~2 cm) from the child's upper airway. The ball was a component of the candy dispenser (described on the next page). The child suffered from anoxic brain injury, and was declared brain dead on 4/15/2023.
