Report Summary

9 YOF ingested three magnet balls & was presented to hospital seven days later with abdominal pain. It was found magnets caused fistula between stomach & jejunum as strong force caused them to oppose in two separate regions of intestine. She required emergency surgery.

Incident Description: A 9 yr old girl ingested 3 of the Neoball magnets around 5/12/2020. She presented to our hospital on 5/19/2020 with abdominal pain, and we found the magnets to have caused a fistula between the stomach and jejunum as the strong force caused them to oppose in 2 separate regions of her intestine. She required emergency surgery for this life threatening situation and has now recovered.
