Consumer reports that the 2 furniture- rocker recliners have a dangerous flaw. The center of gravity on these chairs is far back to the base. On 2 occasions, when the consumer’s husband fully reclined, the chair fell over backwards, spilling him & the chair on the floor.

  • Incident Description: My husband and I bought 2 Lane furniture, Billings rocker recliners from SAMs Club on December 21, 2012, in Elizabethtown, KY. They are very nice and pretty recliners, but they have a very dangerous flaw. The center of gravity on these chairs are so far back to the base, that if you want to fully recline, your rear end has to be all the way against the the very back of the bottom cushion in order to stay fully reclined. I feel unstable when I fully recline, but my husband is much larger than I am, 260 pounds. He fully reclined and the chair fell over backwards, spilling him and the chair on the floor, twice! If I had a small child and they were crawling on the floor behind his chair, they would be seriously hurt or dead. I do have 3 small dogs and I don't want to risk their lives. Or the lives of any other consumers children or pets. I am sending you this email, and I am going to copy and paste this description of my problem to Lane furniture. Thank you for your concern.   • Lane can confirm that the Billings rocker recliner is a Lane product. At this time, Lane has no other complaints or history of this recliner tipping backwards. We researched the complaint and the recliner has passed all testing on tipping established by Sam's Club. In addition, Lane has no record of consumer contacting Lane.
