  • Incident Description: We purchased a crib from a consignment shop that I learned, upon returning home, had been recalled. It is the Simplicity Ellis Crib, recalled for the structurally poor metal tubular mattress support railings. The store owner wanted to argue that the crib was not included in the recall. We showed her the information on the cpsc.gov website regarding the crib, but she still denied that the crib was included in the recall. While she reluctantly refunded our money, her major concern was that she would lose money on this item. I am concerned that this crib may be resold to another uninformed consumer, as we never removed the crib from the store and returned it; we paid for it were going to return to pick it up. Instead we returned seeking our money back. The owner made the comment that she did not have many cribs coming in due to the 'many crib recalls' as of late. The fact that a brand new mattress was included, though this is usually never done, per the salesperson, was also alarming b/c the rails were hidden from view. I happened to lift the mattress out while examining the crib. I would hope that something can be done to insure that this place of business not sell recalled items to parents for children.
