Frigidaire Cooktop "Professional" Series

Model No. FPEC3085KS

Last night (09-27-2018) a horrible burning smell came out of the cooktop. When I looked in the cabinet below, we could see FLAMES in the metal box under the control knobs. I used a kitchen fire extinguisher to put out the fire. We turned all the knobs to "off," but one element remained on - even though all the knobs were in the off position. I cut the power at the breaker box. When I flipped the breaker back to "on," the same element came on, even though all the knobs were still in the off position.

This cooktop is a fire hazard and should be recalled. Had no one been home, there would have been a serious fire.

This is an ongoing issue with Frigidaire. They had to recall cooktops in 2009 and 2010 for this exact problem -- burners turning themselves on and starting fires- yet this model was not recalled. This is a life safety issue.
