Dear US Consumer Product Safety Commission:

I grocery shop with my toddler weekly at Market Basket in Biddeford, Maine. This Market Basket location uses Safe-Strap child safety belts in their carts. I've become aware that there is a serious safety concern with the buckles on these straps. These seat belts appear to be secured after buckling, but the buckle pops open with a small amount of force. These belts and buckles appear to be in good condition and are not broken otherwise.

I first noticed the problem approximately 6 weeks ago. My buckled toddler attempted to stand up in the cart's seat. The buckle popped open! I immediately notified the front-end store manager on duty, [REDACTED]. I demonstrated the buckle buckling and then unbuckling with a slight tug. [REDACTED] assured me this safety issue would be addressed immediately.

Since then, I've come across multiple cart belts at this store with the same issue. I addressed the issue once again with [REDACTED] during my weekly shopping visit today. [REDACTED] stated that she addressed the problem with Safe-Strap personally and with her supervisor, "[REDACTED]." Nothing has been done.

This serious safety issue needs to be addressed immediately. I am sending a copy of this message to Safe-Strap and Market Basket corporate offices.

Please feel free to contact me regarding this issue.
