I smelled a burning smell upon opening my refrigerator last night. I noticed that the top shelf around the light fixture, was very warm. I examined the light unit, and noticed the cover had melted and warped, and the light sockets had turned brown. I had to use heat resistant gloves to remove the light bulbs, and still burned my fingers. I used a camera the next morning, and screwed in one bulb. I closed the door, and the light stayed on. I removed the bulb (less than one minute after installing), and it was burning hot already. I had to throw out 15 yogurts and a gallon of milk, because it nearly boiled them! LG and Kenmore are not issuing a recall, but it is a VERY common issue. I have read numerous reports of people being given the run around for repairs, saying it has been longer than 3 years since purchase, so the $300 repair is on their dime. My attorney says no way. They have recognized this issue with many of the 795 models, and therefore should fix it free of charge, regardless of how many years post purchase one's refrigerator is.
