Electrolux cooktop caught on fire. Unit was subject to a recall that we were not aware of - can turn itself on without warning. See http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2011/Frigidaire-and-Electrolux-ICON-Electric-Smoothtop-Cooktops-and-Slide-In-Ranges-Recalled-Due-to-Fire-Hazard/.

The heat ignited a paper box that burned on top of the unit causing significant damage to it and also to the wood floor below when the burning box fell onto the floor. If we hadn't been home at the time, the house would likely have been in danger of catching fire.

Electrolux response was to send the replacement parts needed to prevent the problem as called for in the recall notice, but since the unit was damaged more parts are needed to repair it - or a complete replacement should be provided. Electrolux required that a local repairman evaluate the unit - he recommends complete replacement. Currently waiting on a response from Electrolux.

We are concerned that the company will not take responsibility for the damage.
