Burned six fingers on protrusions from a Hamilton Beach griller. These tabs look like "handles" but in fact are superheated extensions of the grill plate. If you look very closely <after tending to your wounds<

you'll possible see the words "HOT" stamped in the black metal...no highlighting whatsoever. In fact, the foreign language word "Chaud" is printed in a more visible spot than "HOT" on the same protrusions..

It's almost laughable, if it weren't so painful. Almost like a practical joke on the user.

An amazing blunder and disregard for the safety of the consumer.

Please look into this.

We have taken this expression of dissatisfaction very seriously. We are very sorry this consumer reports to have had a negative experience with one of our products, as we try hard to please consumers who have shown their trust by bringing our products into their homes. We encourage our customers to contact our Consumer Affairs Department at 1.800.851.8900 in order to provide information about their experiences. We have not had an opportunity to examine the product to validate the consumer’s experience, and without this information, we are unable to comment further at this time. Nonetheless, we do want consumers to know the following:
• “Hot Surface” is printed in black on the stainless steel cover of the grill.
• “HOT” is stamped into side tabs for the removable cooking grids.
• The Use & Care guide accompanying the grill contains numerous commonsense reminders on how to interact with the grill:
o Under IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS we state, “Do not touch hot surfaces.”
o Under IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS we state, “Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the appliance.”
o Under OTHER CONSUMER SAFETY INFORMATION (located on the same page as the IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS) we state, “Always use an oven mitt to protect hand when opening the grill.”
o Under the section entitled HOW TO GRILL (with lid closed), we provide the following hazard communication: “WARNING! Burn Hazard. Always use an oven mitt to protect hand from contact with hot surfaces and steam during grilling.”
o Under this same section, we show a user wearing an oven mitt when interacting with the grill.
o Under this section as the last step in the grilling process we state, “Unplug unit and allow to cool before cleaning.”
o Under the section entitled HOW TO GRILL (with lid open in flat position), we provide the following hazard communication: “WARNING! Burn Hazard. Always use an oven mitt to protect hand from contact with hot surfaces and steam during grilling.”
o Under this same section, we show a user wearing an oven mitt when interacting with the grill.
o Under this section as the last step in the grilling process we state, “Unplug unit and allow to cool before cleaning.”
o Under the Care and Cleaning section we state“WARNING! Burn Hazard. Always use an oven mitt to protect hand during cleaning.”
o Under the first step of the cleaning process we state “Allow grill to cool completely before removing grids and/or drip cup.”
