I was using a double walking stroller (InSTEP Safari , by pacific cycle model #: 11-AR280) While pushing the stroller over rail road track the stroller stated to fold up. My 2 year old daughter went to brace herself as the stroller was starting to fold. At the same time i lifted the handle to lock the stroller. At this time my daughter placed her hand in a pinching point of the stroller. The pinch point had a shearing action and caused my daughter to have a partially amputated pinky finger. My daughter was taken by ambulance to the emergency room where a orthopedic surgeon deemed it necessary to have emergency surgery to regain blood flow and correct the compound fracture off the pinky finger. A pin was placed in finger to support the fracture. These procedures helped. My daughter may need corrective surgery a year or two from now to straighten her finger.

Dear Consumer:

We are sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience with one of our Instep Strollers. Based on what you described, the frame was not locked in placed when you went over the railroad tracks. There is a latch on each side of the stroller that needs to be properly engaged before use. When the frame is locked in place, the stroller will not fold up and the pinch points are not accessible.

As we warn in the manual, there are pinch points on the sidewall of the frame that are necessary to allow the stroller to fold and unfold. In addition, please keep children clear of this area when folding and unfolding the stroller. All of our strollers are designed and tested to pass the ASTM F833 Safety Standards for Strollers which includes evaluating the product for any pinch points.

We have passed your information to our Customer Service department and they will contact you directly for assistance. If at any time you need further assistance, please contact us at customerservice@pacific-cycle.com or call 1-800-626-2811.
