My son bought on-line a Dan Wesson replica 6 inch revolver from AirRattle.com. The gun is manufactured by ActionSportGames. The gun is intended to be as lifelike as possible. It is all metal, except for a black plastic handle. We did not authorize this purchase.

The gun was fitted with an orange muzzle tip that is about 1/2 inch long and 1/2 inch in diameter.

When we found the gun, the orange muzzle tip was missing. We found it in his room, and it seems that it was not permanently attached to the muzzle of the gun, as required by 15 CFR 1150.

This gun is intended by the manufacturer to be very lifelike. In fact, the manufacturer has received a license from Dan Wesson Firearms to replicate the real gun in this BB gun.

Without this orange tip, it could easily be mistaken for a real gun and result in the accidental shooting of children or others by law enforcement members or armed members of the public who feel threatened by a child with this BB gun.

This product is defective, inherently unsafe, and not in compliance with 15 CFR 1150.

ActionSportGames® USA, Inc. (ASG-USA) has read and reviewed the report, and confirms that ASG-USA is the importer of the product in question.

ASG-USA has tested the orange tips for all our products – including the Dan Wesson 6 inch airsoft replica revolver – thoroughly before importing into the US.

ASG-USA is constantly optimizing the attachment of the orange tips in order to avoid that they can be removed without the use of tools and without actually breaking the product.
Therefore, ASG-USA specifically note that the submitter of the report under “Incident detail” informs that (our underlining):

“(…) it seems that it was not permanently attached to the muzzle of the gun, (…)”

Based on the wording underlined above - and the fact that the submitter didn’t see the actual event leading to the un-attachment of the orange tip – it is ASG-USA’s assumption that the orange tip was actively removed by the submitter’s son.

However, despite our assumption, we have tested all remaining Dan Wesson 6 inch airsoft replica revolver in stock in US – based on the information in the report.
The test result is that the orange tip can’t be removed without the use of tools, and that the use it tools will result in damage to the product.

Therefore, we conclude that the specific product in the report either was defective (and that the defect is not general for our Dan Wesson 6 inch airsoft replica revolvers available in US) or that the submitter’s son has tampered with the orange tip in order to remove it.
