GE OTR Microwave self started and could not be turned off with the keypad. Magnetron was running as well as the vent motor. Opening the door of the microwave would not turn off the magnetron or the vent motor. Finally removing the power cord from the outlet stopped the unit. By that time the interior of the microwave was very hot. Thank God we were home and still awake and noticed the microwave had self started in time to take action. The glass turntable was too hot to touch. After everything cooled down, I plugged the power cord back into the outlet and the microwave immediately restarted. After leaving the power cord unplugged for 24hrs the power cord was again plugged in and the unit now functions normally, but I will not leave it plugged in. The GE technician came and determined that the control panel had an internal short and offered to replace it. Estimated charge $265.52. I ask him to determine if the new control panel was the same design as the old one or if it had been redesigned to fail safe when shorting out. He told me the control panel had not been redesigned so I am not willing to spend money on a design that is still defective and could result in a fire.
