We bought a GE Sensor Microwave Oven, manufacture in October 2009, the first week of February 2010. Earlier in the week, we awoke early in the morning to the sound of the microwave running. It had turned itself on and had run long enough that there was a chemical burning smell emanating from the interior of the microwave. We turned off the microwave by unplugging it. Later in the day we plugged it back in and reset the clock. The microwave worked without incident, but we unplugged it after each use. Later in the week we forgot to unplug the microwave and it turned itself on in the morning when another family member happened to be in the house and was able to unplug it before it had run too long. We still use the microwave, but unplug it after each use for fear that it could start a fire if it turns itself on and runs for a long time without detection.
