Socket holding bulb melted, blackened; bulb corroded

Socket was supposed to take up to a 60 w bulb; I had only a 6 or 9 w bulb so I did not overlamp the socket

If I had used the 40 w bulb, supplied with the fixture instead of much lower, it could have started a fire

The wires from the fixture to the outlet box were not burned and did not show any sign of damage or improper installation

I have two other identical sconces, again with reduced wattage bulbs and neither of them has shown any sign of similar blackening/melting
